Lebanese Prime Minister: The implementation of the social protection project for the most needy families must be accelerated

Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab stressed the need to expedite the development of a mechanism for implementing the social protection project for the most needy families, financed by the World Bank, and finalizing the regulations for those to whom the conditions of benefit apply to start implementation and provide assistance.

This came during the Lebanese Prime Minister chairing a meeting that included the Ministers of Defense, Social Affairs, Labor, Health, Economy and Education, to move forward with the social protection program, which is expected to include nearly 160,000 Lebanese families.

Diab pointed to the importance of unifying the lists of names for those who will benefit from the social assistance that Lebanon will receive under a loan from the World Bank that was approved by the Lebanese Parliament recently, marking its entry into force.

Last Friday, the Lebanese Parliament approved a bill prepared by the government to conclude an agreement whereby the World Bank would lend Lebanon 246 million dollars to establish a social safety net, according to which the Lebanese state would provide cash support to the most needy families in light of the difficult economic conditions that Lebanon is going through, especially In light of the repercussions of the Corona pandemic.
