Al-Mashat: Implementation of 14 projects worth 117.8 million euros, in cooperation with the German Agency


Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, Dr. Alexander Solega, Director of the German Agency for International Cooperation in Cairo, met in the presence of Stephanie Sorensen, First Secretary and Deputy Head of the Development Cooperation Sector at the German Embassy in Cairo, to discuss common areas of cooperation within the framework of the country's development priorities, and the position of the ongoing projects implemented with Governmental entities.


The Ministry said in a statement that the meeting comes within the framework of ensuring periodic meetings with multilateral and bilateral development partners, to follow up the portfolio of ongoing projects and resolve any obstacles facing their implementation, and to coordinate with the relevant government agencies to ensure the achievement of the desired results from the projects implemented with development partners.


The talks dealt with the position of the ongoing projects between the German Agency for International Cooperation and the concerned authorities in Egypt, where 14 projects worth 117.8 million euros are being implemented in the sectors: migration, energy efficiency, renewable energy, sanitation, labor market, technical education, vocational training, urban development, administrative reform, women, youth, community development and private sector support. And solid waste.


The talks also touched on the international partnerships that have been implemented recently, including the Egyptian German Center for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration, funded by a grant of 2 million euros for the Ministry of State for Migration and Egyptians Abroad, which was inaugurated in November 2020.


Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, said that the ministry seeks to advance the horizons of economic and development cooperation with multilateral and bilateral development partners, through economic diplomacy, through three principles: first: the joint coordination cooperation platform, second: matching development finance with the UN goals of sustainable development. And third: the strategy of listing international posts, based on three main factors, the citizen is the focus of attention, and the ongoing projects, and the goal is the driving force, with the aim of documenting development stories and increasing public awareness of them.


The Minister of International Cooperation praised the cooperation with the German side, whether at the level of the implementation contracts for the projects funded in the form of grants that are concluded between the Ministry of International Cooperation and the Egyptian ministries benefiting and the German Agency for International Cooperation or the projects funded by the Egyptian-German debt exchange program, which are implemented in cooperation between the Egyptian ministries benefiting. And the German Construction Bank, explaining that the partnerships with the German side work to enhance joint cooperation within the framework of the country's development priorities.


On his part, Dr. Alexander Soliga, Director of the German Agency for International Cooperation office in Cairo, thanked the Ministry of International Cooperation for its coordinating role to facilitate work with relevant authorities and ministries in Egypt to implement development projects.


Among the most prominent projects implemented in partnership between the concerned authorities and ministries and the German Agency for International Cooperation, the National Solid Waste Management Program: at an amount of 6 million euros for the Ministry of Environment with the aim of restructuring the waste sector at the national level and implementing an integrated system for solid waste management in the four selected governorates (Kafr El Sheikh - Al Gharbia Qena - Assiut).


In addition to the project to support agricultural innovation in the amount of 7 million euros for the benefit of the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, which aims to increase the income of small farmers in Upper Egypt through the application of innovation in the field of agriculture, and the employment support project "3": with an amount of 16 million euros for the benefit of the Ministry of Education and Technical Education Which aims to provide employment services in an effort to provide fair job opportunities of a non-academic nature for youth, as well as to qualify young people for the labor market by providing technical and vocational education.


It is worth noting that the size of the development cooperation portfolio with Germany amounts to 1.7 billion euros, in four sectors with the aim of achieving sustainable development goals: energy efficiency, renewable energy, sanitation, water support, irrigation, solid waste management, migration, labor market, private sector support, technical education, vocational training, urban development, administrative reform and women. And youth and community development.
