Experts have warned that the seasonal allergy season this year will be the longest due to climate change, which leads to an increase in pollen in the air, and specialists advise people with allergies to wear sunglasses outside, shower after going out, and keep windows closed when you are inside.
According to a report by the healthline website, a recent study found that the pollen season increased by 20 days annually, and the study found that the pollen in the air may be more effective and therefore more sensitive.
Dr. Stanley M. Veneman, an Atlanta-based allergist and immunologist for allergies and asthma and former president of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI), said the results reflect his experience tracking pollen counts and treating people over 40, years of practice in Georgia.
"This is clearly a more severe allergic season than we've seen in a long time. We see a lot of patients complaining of more symptoms and not being able to deal with it with the over-the-counter medications due to the early air temperature and extended pill season," Veneman added. The vaccine is stronger. "
Dr. Anna Novak Wegersen, a pediatric allergy specialist at New York University's Hessenfeld Children's Hospital, said climate change could also lead to the introduction of new types of pollen as plants adapt to higher temperatures.
"There are fluctuations, because not every season is worse than last season, and in general we see more patients with worse symptoms, especially in the children," she added.
Novak Figuerzen explained that the precautions taken regarding Covid-19 in 2020 and 2021 may have provided a temporary delay to the worsening allergic season, but the general trend is not encouraging.
Other preventive steps recommended by experts to prevent the symptoms of seasonal allergies include keeping windows closed during the pollen season, showering after spending time outdoors, wearing sunglasses and a hat to keep pollen from your hair and eyes, and continuing to wear a mask outdoors. During the pollen season it can limit exposure.
