General Mohamed Idriss Déby assumed the presidency of the Transitional Military Council in Chad, after the killing of his father, President of the Republic, Idriss Deby Itno.
Mohamed is a 37-year-old Chadian army officer, born on January 1, 1984, he began his military career at the Joint Officers School (GMIA), and was assigned responsibilities from an early age, particularly as a commander in several Presidential Guard groups, according to the report. On the African Unity website, in its French version.
He was promoted successively to the ranks of battalion commander, lieutenant colonel, colonel, then brigadier general before being appointed to a general division in 2015, and a year earlier, he was appointed Director General of Security Services for State Institutions (DGSSIE). In 2018 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.
Mohamed Idriss Déby participated in several military operations, including in Mali in Adrar de Evogas in 2013, he was then First Deputy Commander of the Chadian Armed Forces in Mali (FATIM).
Yesterday, the Chadian president-elect met with the rank of Marshal, Idrissi Déby Atino, and the Chadian army announced his death from his injuries during battles on the front against the rebels in the north of the country, the day after he won a sixth term with 79.3% of the vote.
The Chadian army announced a curfew, closing the country's borders, and pledging to hold "democratic" elections after an 18-month transitional period in the country.
