Pope Francis on the sinking of a boat with 130 immigrants: "People are dying in new tragic crossings."

Pope Francis called on parishes of the Church around the world to pray for the victims of the shipwrecked boat in the Mediterranean, adding: "Let us pray for these brothers and sisters, and for those who are still dying in these tragic crossings."


An international aid organization said that nearly 130 migrants were killed when a rubber boat capsized in the Mediterranean off the Libyan coast, according to "Sputnik."



"After hours of searching, our worst fears were realized. The crew of the Ocean Viking watched the devastating effects of the sinking of a rubber boat north-east of Tripoli," the non-governmental organization Sos Mediterranèe said in a statement.


The charity's statement indicated that the boat was carrying about 130 people. According to the organization, a plane belonging to the European Agency for Border and Coast Guard "Frontex" spotted the wreck of the upturned boat, while later, the crew of the organization's ship did not find any survivors and saw at least 10 bodies To the victims

 

The charity said, "Our hearts are broken by this incident. We think of the lives that were lost and of the families who may not be sure of what happened to their loved ones."
