Hertha Berlin came close to deciding to stay in the German Bundesliga, after it achieved a dear victory over its host Schalke, with two goals to one, in the match that brought them together Wednesday night at the "Veltins-Arena" in the postponed match of the 31st round of the Bundesliga for the current season 2020-2021.
The match had been postponed due to a number of Hertha Berlin players being infected with the Corona virus.
Schalke led first in the sixth minute with a goal by Moroccan international Amine Harith, and tied for Hertha Berlin, Belgian defender Diederik Buyatta in the 18th minute.
Amine Harith scored his 12th goal in his 100th match in the German League, and equaled Abdelaziz Ahnofouf's number as the best Moroccan scorer in the Bundesliga.
In the second half, young player Jesk Njangkam scored the winning goal for the German capital team in the 74th minute.
Hertha Berlin striker Dodi Lukebakio was sent off one minute before the end of the match.
With that result, Hertha Berlin's score rises to 34 points in the thirteenth place in the German league table, while Schalke is in the 18th and last place with 13 points, and officially guaranteed the relegation.
