The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued the eleventh issue of the report "Following up the citizen in the governorates" during the years (18/2019 - 19/2020) for Cairo Governorate, which includes an inventory of the projects that were fully completed during the same period, and linking them to the sustainable development goals.
Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, indicated that 585 development projects have been completed in Cairo Governorate at a total cost of 35.3 billion pounds in 6 sectors: housing, electricity, transportation, irrigation, local development, and education.
The report of the Ministry of Planning indicated that with regard to the country’s efforts to achieve the second goal of the sustainable development goals: “eradicating hunger, providing food security and improved nutrition, and promoting sustainable agriculture”, the implementation of 6 projects in the water resources and irrigation sector has been completed, at a cost of 81.5 million pounds. , Including the rehabilitation of the Hajar and Khashab Canals in Helwan.
With regard to the state’s efforts to achieve the fourth goal of the sustainable development goals: “Ensure quality education that is equitable, inclusive and enhances lifelong learning opportunities for all,” the report indicated that 95 projects in the pre-university education sector, at a cost of 665 million pounds, have been completed. The establishment, replacement and expansion of 2139 classrooms at all educational levels.
The Ministry’s report also indicated that within the framework of achieving the sixth goal: “Ensuring the availability of drinking water and sanitation for all and its sustainable management”, the sewage improvement project on Al-Khalifa Al-Mamoun Street, a sewage plant (14, 16) and a water line in New Cairo have been completed. And expansions of the sewage system Helwan El-Balad.
With regard to the progress made in achieving the seventh goal: “ensuring universal access to modern, reliable and sustainable energy services at an affordable cost,” the report confirmed the completion of the construction of the second steam station at the South Helwan Power Plant (capacity 650 megawatts), and the construction of the 180-degree Zahraa Maadi / South Helwan line. km, and the Manshiet Nasser transformer station (495 MVA capacity), and the expansion of the Sabtieh transformer station (added capacity 125 MVA).
The implementation of 73 projects within the local development programs (electricity and lighting), at a cost of EGP 186 million, resulted in the lighting of 1,450 streets, the installation, replacement and renewal of about 23,000 columns, the laying of new cables with a length of 295 km, and the provision of 142,000 lighting equipment and tasks.
With regard to the ninth goal of the sustainable development goals: “Building resilient infrastructure, stimulating inclusive sustainable industrialization, and encouraging innovation”, the first part of the fourth phase of the third subway line, and the duplication of the subway line (Al-Marj - Al-Marj Al-Jadida) has been completed. ) and the Central Ring Road with a length of 22 km.
In addition, 128 projects were completed within the local development programs (paving roads, bridges and tunnels), at a cost of more than 2 billion pounds, which resulted in the paving of roads and internal streets with a length of 431 km, and the construction and development of 26 bridges.
In the same context, and with regard to the eleventh goal, "making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable", the report indicated the completion of the implementation of a number of projects to develop slums and dangerous and unsafe areas, including Asmarat 3 to provide 7440 housing units and remove danger from 7 areas. Al-Mahrousa (2,1), as well as the establishment of about 41 thousand social housing units in the cities of Badr and 15 May.
The report indicated the completion of the implementation of 101 projects, within the local development programs (security, traffic and firefighting, strengthening the needs of local units), at a cost of 1.3 billion pounds, including the development and upgrading of 59 administrative buildings, and the connection of facilities to about 18.4 thousand housing units in Asmarat (3.2, 1), 4776 Al-Mahrousa housing (2,1), finishing and connecting utilities to about 7,930 housing units in Badr City, and the construction of 198 housing units in Al-Nahda City, in addition to the construction of a craft complex for car workshops on Ain Sukhna Road, and 2 street vendors’ markets.
With regard to the thirteenth goal of the sustainable development goals: “Take urgent measures to combat climate change and its impacts”, 24 projects were completed within the local development programs (improving the environment), at a cost of 73 million pounds, which resulted in the completion of the development of the Al-Basateen and May 15 slaughterhouses, and the supply of 1,390 It is intended to develop 7 public parks and Sohag market in Heliopolis.
The Minister of Planning and Economic Development confirmed that the capital will regain much of its luster during the coming period, as a number of major projects are being planned within Cairo in the sectors of transportation, tourism, antiquities, services and facilities, in parallel with the great progress in the new cities and the administrative capital.
