Iraq: Black fungus does not constitute a pandemic, and calls on people with low immunity to take the vaccine

Today, Friday, the Iraqi Ministry of Health and Environment said, "Black fungus does not constitute an epidemic and is not transmitted from one person to another," calling on those with low immunity to take the vaccine.

A member of the media medical team of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ruba Falah Hassan, told Alsumaria News, "Black fungus is a fungal disease that basically exists even before Corona and has nothing to do with it. It affects people with low immunity and chronic diseases such as uncontrolled diabetes or those who use steroid treatment for long periods." Or even wrongly, and they have low immunity, they are more susceptible to infection with fungi in general, not just this disease in particular.

She added that black fungus is a rare disease that does not constitute an epidemic and is not transmitted from one person to another, pointing out that the Ministry of Health is following up on every case, treating it and following it up, and that there are special medical teams and committees formed to follow up and diagnose these cases, if any.

She stressed the importance of taking the vaccine as necessary for people with low immunity and those who have chronic diseases to protect them from the severity of the infection and its complications and the consequent comorbidities.
