The Court of First Instance in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh sentenced a Moroccan immigrant (with Italian citizenship) to imprisonment for three and a half years, after insulting the religious sanctities of the Moroccan people on social media platforms, and imposed a fine of 50,000 dirhams.
The 23-year-old immigrant was involved in distorting a surah from the Noble Qur’an and publishing it on her page on the social networking platform (Facebook) in 2019, and was seized by the security authorities of Rabat-Salé Airport on June 20.
The Public Prosecution authorities charged the immigrant with “offending the Islamic religion through publications, distributing and broadcasting them to the public through electronic, audio and visual means,” and these acts are stipulated and punishable in the Criminal Code.
