The Minister of Interior and Municipalities of the Lebanese caretaker government, Brigadier General Mohamed Fahmy, said that coordination between the Lebanese Internal Security Forces and the Saudi security forces led to the seizure of a drug smuggling operation (Captagon) estimated at 14 million and 400 thousand tablets in Jeddah port, praising the cooperation, coordination and joint effort between the two sides.
Fahmy added - in a statement today - that the (Captagon) shipment was coming from the port of Lattakia through the port of Beirut with a forged Greek certificate of origin.
He pointed out that the serious follow-up, high professionalism and distinguished cooperation between the Lebanese and Saudi security forces led to the detection of this operation after high proactive security coordination. He saluted the elements of the Internal Security Forces who strive to fight drug smuggling to protect and fortify the societal security of Lebanon and brotherly and friendly countries.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia decided about two months ago to prevent the entry of Lebanese fruits and vegetables or their transportation through its territory due to an increase in drug smuggling, until the relevant Lebanese authorities provide sufficient and reliable guarantees to take the necessary measures to stop drug smuggling operations.
Lebanon witnessed many meetings during the past weeks; To discuss ways to equip Lebanon's ports with the necessary equipment to control smuggling operations and restore the ability to export to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf once again.
