The World Bank supports water projects in Sudan with $ 500 million


The Sudanese Ministry of Irrigation announced that the World Bank has decided to allocate $ 500 million to support irrigation projects in Sudan.

In a statement, the Sudanese Ministry of Irrigation stated that the Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Yasser Abbas, discussed with Nimadzibo Tawfla, Executive Director of the World Bank, issues of the water sector in Sudan, in the presence of the Director General of Drinking Water and Sanitation in the Ministry of Irrigation Eng. Hisham Al-Amir and a number of officials.

During the meeting, the Sudanese side presented the strategy prepared by the Ministry during the transitional period for the irrigation sector, drinking water sector and water resources sector, in addition to Sudan's needs in the field of capacity building and project implementation.

The Emir expected that the World Bank will provide the necessary support for the water sector programs in Sudan before the end of the year, pointing out that the World Bank has allocated $ 200 million for drinking water and $ 300 million for the irrigation and water resources sector.

He explained that the World Bank delegation, after having listened to the Sudanese side, will return to Washington to start preparing for these projects.
