Turkish media reported that President Bashar al-Assad and his wife Asma al-Akhras had traveled to Moscow on a private plane for treatment, claiming that his health had worsened.
On March 8, the Syrian presidency announced that President Al-Assad and his wife had contracted the emerging coronavirus disease, and that they were in good health and in stable condition, and would continue their work during their home quarantine period, which would last for two or three weeks.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed, on March 9, that Russian President Vladimir Putin will immediately consider the issue of providing assistance to President Al-Assad due to his infection with (Covid 19).
