The Commission stated, in a statement today, Tuesday, that the offers of support from European Union member states include oxygen cylinders from Ireland and Romania, anti-viral drugs from Belgium and Portugal, and respirators from Luxembourg and Sweden.

She explained that this support is being provided in line with the coordination efforts currently being made by the European Union member states to pool their resources as part of a rapid response to address the alarming epidemiological situation in India.

It is expected that more EU support will be provided through other member states in the coming days, including France and Germany.

In this context, Janez Lenarchic, European Commissioner for Crisis Management, said, “The European Union stands in complete solidarity with the Indian people and is ready to do its utmost to support it at this critical time,” expressing his thanks to the Member States that have made many generous offers of assistance, which showed that the Union European reliable partner and friend in times of need.

"The scope of the European Union's Civil Protection Mechanism goes beyond the borders of the European Union, as our Emergency Response Coordination Center facilitates logistical arrangements and the European Union will cover the brunt of the transport costs," he added.

It is noteworthy that the European Union's civil protection mechanism aims to strengthen cooperation between the member states of the European Union and the six participating countries in the field of civil protection, with the aim of improving prevention, preparedness and response to disasters.
