The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Jordanian Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority, Haitham Mesto, revealed that the losses of the country's airlines exceeded 200 million dinars last year, according to the preliminary financial data received by the Authority from the airlines and Jordanian airport operators.
"These losses have not yet included the losses of the operators who support the aviation sector, such as maintenance companies, training institutes and academies, and ground handling service providers at airports, in addition to the indirect losses incurred by the tourism sector with all its components," Mesto said - in a statement reported by the Jordan News Agency (Petra). ".
He added that last year the authority recorded a decrease in the movement of passengers, aircraft and air freight at airports, indicating that the incoming and outgoing passenger traffic decreased by 76%, while the incoming and outgoing aircraft movement decreased by 66%, and the incoming and outgoing air freight traffic decreased by 53%.
He pointed out that the Jordanian airports received about 2.239 million "arriving and departing" passengers last year, compared to 9.227 million passengers in 2019, as well as 29.486 thousand aircraft arriving and departing in 2020, a sharp decrease from the previous year, in which it received 87,565,565 aircraft.
