Imran Khan calls on the people to support the government's initiatives to combat the consequences of climate change


Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has called on the Pakistani people to support the government's initiatives to combat the negative effects of climate change.


Khan said, according to the official Pakistan News Agency, that hosting the celebrations of the World Environment Day is a great honor for Pakistan, explaining that the international community recognizes Pakistan's initiatives in the field of environment.


He pointed out that Pakistan is among the ten countries vulnerable to climate change, stressing that the rapid melting of glaciers in Pakistan is a major threat, and that his government has launched many green initiatives, including a tsunami project to plant 10 billion trees in order to reduce the effects of global warming, adding that Pakistan Committed to leading innovative initiatives to conserve nature and biodiversity.


He regretted that not enough attention was given in Pakistan on addressing the issues of environmental pollution, depletion of natural resources and deforestation in the past, praising the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General to address the negative effects of climate change in the world.
