French President Emmanuel Macron inspected the Renault industrial site near Douai in northeastern France, which is scheduled to witness the construction of a huge Chinese factory to produce batteries.
Today, Monday, France 24 news channel reported that three ministers accompanied Macron on his tour, namely, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, Industry Minister Anis Pannier-Runacher and Foreign Trade Minister Franck Riester. To formalize an investment of two billion euros by the Chinese group "Envision", which will provide 1,000 jobs by 2024 to produce batteries in northern France to operate a range of Renault electric cars.
Japan's AESC, a battery manufacturer affiliated with Chinese green technology group Envision, will manufacture batteries near Renault's plant in Douai, in the north of the country, for other brands.
This futuristic mega plant is the second to be announced in France after the "Stellantes" plant for electric cars (a consortium resulting from the merger of "Peugeot-Citroen" and "Fiat Chrysler" Italian-American) and "Total-Energy" in "Dupran" in the north of the country.
The "Envision" plant will be the cornerstone of the "Electric City" group that Renault will launch in the north.
