The Russian Ministry of Health has registered an inhaled drug for the treatment and prevention of pneumonia caused by the new coronavirus, under the name "Leitragin".
The Federal Medical and Biological Agency of the Russian Ministry of Health said - in a statement today, Wednesday, reported by the Russian "TASS" news agency - that the new drug aims to treat and prevent pneumonia, which is one of the most important complications of the emerging coronavirus disease, adding that the industrial production of the drug is underway. it currently.
The statement indicated that the drug "Leitragin" is the first drug aimed at preventing and combating severe cases infected with the so-called "cytokine storm" caused by the Corona virus.
He explained that clinical trials conducted on 320 patients with moderate symptoms of corona showed that there were no deaths among the group.
He added that the drug has no severe symptoms, as patients who took "Leitragin" recovered within eight days, compared to 14 days of recovery for those receiving the current treatment.
Earlier, preliminary data from the Russian Chumakov Scientific Center showed that the effectiveness of the Russian “Kovivak” anti-Corona vaccine, which is being developed, is more than 80%.
Chumakov Research Center said - in a statement reported by (Russia Today) news channel today, Wednesday, that "the effectiveness of the "Covivac" vaccine exceeded 80%, and the final stage of testing has not yet been completed."
He pointed out that the third phase of testing this two-component vaccine is expected to begin in June and last for about a year.
He explained that in the context of the test, a separate group of volunteers aged 60 years and over will be selected, and the need for vaccination with three doses for people with weak immunity will be studied.
It is noteworthy that the Russian “Kovivac” vaccine is the third in the order of registration after the “Sputnik V” and “Apivac Corona” vaccines, and it was officially registered in Russia on February 20, and industrial production was launched at the end of March, while this vaccine entered the field of circulation. In Moscow, on June 1, it will soon be available in many vaccination centers.
