The Russian Special Envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, stressed that the situation in Syria is gradually approaching stability, stressing the need to continue the fight against terrorist elements there.
Lavrentiev said - in press statements reported by the Russian news agency (TASS) - that despite the general trend towards achieving gradual stability on the territory of the Syrian Republic, the fighting must continue.
He pointed out that despite calls by some European countries for a nationwide ceasefire, the war on terrorism must remain a priority, in light of the continuing terrorist threat.
And concluded earlier today in Kazakhstan the high-level international meeting on the situation in Syria within the Astana negotiations, which includes delegations representing the guarantor countries (Russia, Iran and Turkey), the Syrian government and the Syrian opposition. The United Nations, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq will also participate in the event as observers.
The negotiators discussed the situation in Syria, international humanitarian aid to the country, and prospects for resuming the activities of the Syrian Constitutional Committee in Geneva, in addition to prisoner exchange files, the release of hostages, and the search for the missing.
