Kenya launches "flying taxi" service in the capital, Nairobi


Kenya Airways plans to launch a "flying taxi" service in the capital, Nairobi, in cooperation with a company specialized in the field of drones.


This cooperation aims to design a safe operating network for electric helicopters, as the Kenyan company contracted earlier this month with Eva, a subsidiary of the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer SA, to develop some flying car models for its main markets, according to Kenyan media today.


The Brazilian company Embraer said, in a statement in this regard, that the EVA plane could contribute to reducing the journey time between Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the central business district in Nairobi to six minutes instead of sixty minutes by cars on land roads.


For his part, Andre Stein, CEO of Embraer's Urban Air Transport Solutions Unit, said that the introduction of the flying taxi will provide an alternative means of transportation for rushing passengers, and will contribute to enhancing freedom of movement.


The "EVA" electric plane used as a flying taxi is characterized by zero carbon emissions and can cover a flight distance of one million kilometers, and its seats are equipped with parachutes for emergency use.


It is noteworthy that, one of the Japanese airlines revealed its plans to launch its business in the field of flying taxis in the fiscal year 2025.


The company confirmed that it aims to provide services to transport passengers between airports and tourist destinations, according to the idea of ​​the company, it will be a business similar to a taxi, according to the Russian agency Sputnik.


Japan Airlines plans to use the plane of the German company Volocopter, in which the Japanese airline invested in 2020, a two-seater electric drone with vertical take-off and landing, and can fly at a speed of up to 110 km, h, and a flight range of 35 km.
