Italy requires all health workers to obtain the Corona vaccine

The Italian government announced that all health workers in Italy must obtain the preventive vaccine against the Coronavirus, in a potentially controversial step aimed at protecting patients and addressing those calling for not taking the vaccine.

In Italy there is a strong anti-vaccination movement. The discovery of hotbeds in hospitals after their workers refused to receive the vaccine sparked widespread anger in a country that recorded more than 109,000 deaths from the disease.

But government critics have raised questions about the legitimacy of forcing only some categories of workers and not others to be vaccinated.

And according to a decision issued on Wednesday and approved by the government of Prime Minister Mario Draghi that health workers, including pharmacists, "must get the vaccine." And the decision threatened those who refused to be vaccinated to stop working without pay until the end of the year.

"The aim of this measure is to provide protection, as far as possible, for medical personnel and their assistants who work in an environment that makes them more vulnerable to infection," the government said in a statement.

Italy pledged to reach an average of 500,000 vaccinations per day in April from about 230,000 now. The vaccination campaign was disrupted in Italy due to delays in supplies, as happened in other European countries.
